Man....I've been spending most of my time this semester in the Library. Yeah.....that's where I go after most of my classes have finish coz I wanna go online or more importantly do my assignment and research.

That's the place to get peace and quite coz not many people go to the Library.......like it used to be

Lately...especially after the Mid Term Break I realized that the number of students coming to the Library has increased. I guess its a good thing if there are students who wanted to start studying for exams...but that is not the case.

Especially after 6pm a bunch of....sorry to say.... INTERNATIONALS start coming to the Library and start making noises. These guys(normally the same group) have no respect for others in the Library as they stroll inside the Library talking loudly...disregarding other in the Library who wants to study or do their work.

I hope some thing could be done about these people...or at least some thing happen to them so that they dont come to the Library any more....

Im actually typing this while sitting inside the Library accompanied by ring tones from cellphones and voices from conversations.

Other than these INTERNATIONALS....I realized that new students tend to be very noisy in the Library compared to more senior students.... And just imagine that these people still make noises inside the QUIET ROOM.

Ironic isn't it?

It's a sad but unfortunately, TRUE.

During the day, the atmosphere is still acceptable, just the computer area side is more noisy compare to the other. However at night......

yea i do agree. i came across once and it was simply, annoying. therefore, i choose not to go to the library. haha

Why isn't the librarians enforcing the rules? I'm not surprised if the librarians have not been warning students for some time and the rowdy ones grow bolder.

I have no idea why someone wouldn't bother switching to silent. Most ringtones are annoying and suck. You can even hear the phone vibrate if you're NOT deaf. Just silent the thing 24/7 if it's so damn annoying to switch modes.

lolz.. nvr stay at the lib aft 6pm. but even in the afternoon the library also very noisy. some students just chat and laugh like they are in starbucks having their gathering... grrr.... sienz...

yeah.. i chose not to go.. lol.. because they are simply just chitchating and facebooking!!!!

I will raise this issue up to the facilities focus group 2molo~~

Been avoiding from doing anything in the library for years. Usually hunt for an empty tutorial room and study inside. Way more cosy and got peace of mind.

Below is the message that replied by the librarian after receive my mail which mentioned about the issue discussed in this post.

Dear students

Noisy students in the library (SSSC Forum)

Thank you for highlighting the level of noise in the library. Controlling students from talking loudly is a never-ending battle for the library. We also notice that these disturbers are ignoring our polite requests to be quiet, and many students are uncomfortable approaching groups who are clearly demonstrating that they do not care the needs of the other library users.

We are trying our best to monitor the situation. One of the several ways is to routinely patrol the library. We are also hoping that our library can move towards a culture of SELF POLICING and to do this we do need the students’ full cooperation. After all Swinburne Library is for adult population and we don’t want to submit to a “shussing” environment. However you may notice that we have succumbed to that attitude. If you are not comfortable asking the disruptive or noisy students to “shuss”, do come and see any of our service desk staff and they will be able to assist you.

Welcome. We shall all work together to create a better library atmosphere. like what the librarian said, we can always look for their help if we found that the library is noisy~~
